Since the board was not our friend this weekend, I had to do Father's Day all alone. We had my husband's faves: tomato mozzarella, beefsteak Florentine and apple pie. The steak, which I picked up in Italy last year was fantastic. I marinated it in balsamic, olive oil and rosemary. So simple but so tasty. The only down side is the steak (which is like a Porterhouse, I think) curled up on the edges and did not cook evenly. I need to cut it somehow so it lays flat as it cooks. I also need to get me and my cooler back to Italy! So, what did you all make? Mary |

Shortstack and I made cookies -- oatmeal for Grandpa and sugar for Dad. Cary wanted chocolate chip for himself. I explained that we were just making cookies for daddies. He explained that he is Yed's daddy. Yed is his imaginary friend. He likes motorcycles and rockin' guitars. But not too rockin'. Quietly rockin'. |

We had BBQ'd ribs, home-made Mac n' Cheese, and Cole Slaw. For dessert, homemake ice cream and salted caramel fudge sauce with fresh berries. We all gained a couple of pounds! |

My dad was in NY visting my brother so it was a quiet day here. Calamari as a treat for hubby along with steak. Dessert was one of those cornetto ice cream cones from a box. |

I tried a new dessert recipe that was quite good -- little French chocolate cakes from David Lebovitz's new book. They were the perfect size little lava cakes and about as easy as you can get. (You make them at least 3 and up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate them before baking.) I served them with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. And speaking of the ice cream... has anyone tried Costco's Kirkland Super Premium vanilla? I rarely buy vanilla ice cream -- usually just make some when I need it for a company dessert -- but my brother had seen a write-up about it in Consumer Reports. They said that the Kirkland ice cream was better than Haagen-Daz. And I think they're right. It's dangerous!! (Especially at $5 for a full half-gallon.) Emilie |

DS graduated from college on Father's Day so we went out to dinner. The restaurant let me bring dessert, so I brought blackout cake and a CI custard berry tart. I wasn't entirely pleased with the blackout cake recipe (from a pastry chef, posted on food network which came up when I googled), (so not the CC recipe whose pudding didn't completely thrill me either), and so I will experiment in the future. The tart was really good. |

Emilie, that icecream is my go to now and is almost always in the freezer. It's cheaper than making my own and just as good. |
