We went to Au Pied De Cochon, the one in Montreal, not the one in Paris, though I have been to that one too. Wonderful meals in both places; the primary problem for the one in montreal is that you feel full for days. Our three year old went too, and it worked out amazingly enough. |

We had a wedding on Saturday night so put off the turkey till Monday. My mom made the turkey, I made an eye of round on the rotisserie along with some sides and desserts and my sister hosted. 3 kinds of potatoes (sweet mashed, baked russets and twice baked russets), zucchini/corn fritters, shredded broccoli, rice stuffing, and Dorie Greenspan's "Pumpkin stuffed with Everything Good". And salad. Tons of desserts including Smitten Kitchen's "Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls". Stuffed! |

No turkey day here till next month but as it was 23ºF this morning I think it's a good day for a hot bowl of chili: Spicy Touchdown Chili 1 lb ground beef 1 lb bulk pork sausage 2 cans (16 ounces each) kidney beans, rinsed and drained 2 cans (15 ounces each) pinto beans, rinsed and drained 2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each ) diced tomatoes with mild green chilies, undrained 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes with onions, undrained 1 can (12 ounces) beer 6 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled 1 small onion, chopped 1/4 cup chili powder 1/4 cup chopped pickled jalapeno slices 2 tsp ground cumin 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp dried basil 3/4 tsp cayenne pepper In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain. Transfer to a 6-qt. slow cooker. Repeat with sausage. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cook, covered, on low 4-5 hours or until heated through. Yield: 12 servings (3 quarts). While some think there should never be beans in chili, I always have them in mine; why not? It just adds more flavor. |
