Anyone here have recommendations for dinner in Madison, WI? I'll be there for a week of onsite data migration. Or for a really good brewpub. |

L'etoile is really nice. Loads of local products, simple cooking. Haven't looked for a pub there in years. |

Josh, The Great Dane is a good brewpub on the Capitol Square. That is also the location of the Dane County Farmers Market, one of the very best in the Midwest. Keep your eyes open for Capital Brewery and New Glarus beers and ales. They are the best of the local brewers. L'Etoile is outstanding and pricey. At the other end of the food chain is Mickey's Dairy Bar across from Camp Randall. The University of Wisconsin Babcock Hall Dairy Store has excellent ice cream and yogurt. If you want a real fun Swiss venture, drive about 30 miles south to New Glarus and go to the New Glarus Hotel for incredible swiss food, kalberwurst, swiss onion soup and roesti. You can get a Spotted Cow at the Glarner Stube and polka dance to the Billie Bright Orchestra. I really miss Madison! Tim |

How could I have forgotten to mention the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum? It's a wonderful place for a visit, well worth the travel. And the New Glarus Fat Squirrel is tasty stuff. |

Tim, Unfortunately I won't have any days off, just evenings, or I'd be all over the swiss thing. Thanks for advice, all! |

Currently in Madison, had dinner at the "Old Fashioned" on the square, had fried cheese curds, a cheese plate, apple pie with cheddar, (seeing a theme here). and a tenderloin sandwich, sandwich was pretty good, curds were super, atmosphere was GREAT. I had a very good draft root beer, Al had a Point wheat beer...life is good. |

Frank, I had dinner at a fish place right in the capitol square. Was excellent. Hmmm ... although any place in the capitol square is liable to be somewhat dominated by protestors right now ... Echo recommendations for New Glarus beers. Excellent. |

I saw on the news last night, that the square was full of protesters, I got there about 6:00 PM and saw 4 guys with signs walking around the square...funny how when the news trucks leave so do the protesters... ![]() Based on the news we see you would think the capitol was under siege... ![]() |
