That sounds really good. We are still waiting for our lamb for the freezer. Our provider wasn't happy with the lamb they had ear marked for us. It got sick & is eating now, but not gaining weight. He's very particular & that's why we like to get our lamb from him. He is talking to his friends about a lamb for us & we want to share a pig with them. I know we will get great quality meat from them so it is worth the wait.

Just have a lot of scraps in the freezer. Well, we do have a turkey & some other things, but it is empty according to our standards.

Thank God for a freezer!! I'm stuck in the country without a car; (DS was hit by an escaped tire, and his car is in the shop, so he took mine.)

Last night: some chicken breasts. Tonight more chicken breasts and some bacon for the Grape Picker's Skillet from the February CaH. Looks like a good recipe. Nearly all of them look good this time. Will report back.

Kathy,
Care to share your soup recipe? I tried the recipe in the current CI mag and we didn't like it, at all. Found that it was much too greasy. But we love split pea soup so would love to have a TAT recipe.
Thanks!
Nance

I use the old CI recipe from Soups & Stews. If you don't have it, let me know & I'll describe it to you.

I'm thinking about buying a freezer. I found one that will work in my garage that isn't heated in the Winter.

I should hope the freezer isn't heated. Or is your garage so cold that the freezer needs to be heated? I can imagine it, in Michigan.

On a serious note, the real problem with a freezer in the garage is summer.

Actually, in parts of the country that get winter, the problem is having a regular combination fridge-freezer in the garage. Because the garage temperature is near the ideal for the refirgerator section, the compressor doesn't run enough to keep the freezer section as cold as it should be. There are purpose-built garage refrigerators that work around this, or one can use a standalone freezer.

I took a small piece (1 lb 10oz) piece of chuck out of the freezer. Don't know what I am going to do with it yet. Any ideas? Has to be with pantry ingred as I'm not going to the store. Also have sweet pots & butternut squash on the counter. How's that for a combo? No carrots in the house, otherwise I am pretty well stocked.
