Yesterday the weather here broke. It was nearly 60 degrees. The grass poked up through the snow. The sun shone. It got me in the mood for grilling. So I bought a chicken with every intention of grill-roasting it with some smoke.
Then today dawcned overcast. With snow and wind. And highs around 25.
Undaunted, I brushed the snow off, lit the charcoal, and brined the chicken. It is roasting as we speak. My neighbor thinks I'm some kind of crazy Californian. But we'll be having grill-roasted chicken tonight, even if I have to finish it in the oven. My grill doesn't want to get above 300, even using up the last 1/3 bag of charcoal from last year.

When I was crazy enough to try firing up the roti while I lived in NY, we would build a windshield around the grill so it wouldn't get so friggin' cold it wouldn't work.

It has a cover. Seems to have worked great.

Of course, now I live in Colorado where the weather can be very extreme, and I've got it in my head to build an outdoor wok station.

I have dreams of an outdoor kitchen. Of course, I also have dreams of settling in the Pacific Northwest as soon as I can...

I have a grillzebo to help keep the elements out. Grilled on valentines day, actually (chicken Fajita's on the charcoal grill), even though it was -10 C or so. Also fire up the gas barbie, which is also under the grillzebo. I've not had great success with the smoker though, just too hard to keep temp; I might get an insulating jacket one of these days.
