One of the rewards of living in the frozen tundra is local maple syrup. Even though the promise of inclement weather resulted in the cancellation of the locally-grown food festival Friday night, I stumbled across a local purveyor at Tractor Supply yesterday who was taking part in a PAWS fund raising and adoption event. The syrup they were selling was the first of 2013 and he claimed it was 70 Brix because that was the way his father taught him to do it. In any case, it is awesome syrup. Ungraded, but probably medium amber and the closest to home I have ever found.
