I was at a Motorcycle Swap Meet yesteday and I bought a bag of Kettle Corn. After having eaten a few handfuls, I went back to the booth and asked what type of Popcorn they used. I was told they used a variety called Mushroom. The Kernels were very large and round. After doing a little reseach, Mushroom popcorn is the preferred variety for Kettle and Caramal corn makers. I have found vendors online, but I'm not sure which one to use. Has anybody bought this variety and have a preferred vendor?

Todd, I get mine at a franchise up here that sells popped and flavoured popcorn. Kernel's is the name, but they appear to be mainly Canadian wiht only 1 locaiton in the USA. I just go the counter and ask to buy the unpopped kernels. My assumption is that there is a similar place that sells popcorn in malls in the USA, so I'd try there.

I called a store here in Bay City that makes and sells Caramel Corn and they do not use the Mushroom variety. The next closest store would be a fudge shop in Frankenmuth. I will have to call a few of them and see what they use. Thanks for the suggestion.

I found the popcorn. The only problem is I have to buy a 50lb for $20.00. Does anybody want to buy some popcorn?

That's a lot of popcorn. I contemplated buying a similar sized bag at Sam's Club a few years back, thinking I'd donate most to my boys' schools but never did buy it.

Here is a link to an online source where you can buy 2 pounds for $6.99 (+ S/H).

Darcie, Thanks for the link. I think I am going to splurge on the 50lb bag. The Farm/Company that sells it is about 20 miles away in the country, so I am thinking it will be a nice motorcycle ride for this weekend. I'm sure it will look strange having a 50lb bag of popcorn strapped to my luggage rack on the way home. I will probably give some away to family, friends and a few neighbors. I was told as long as you keep it in an airtight container, it will last a long time.

Todd, I would love to get some of your popcorn. Perhaps you could come by the Ren Faire in Marshall on the 26th/27th? I will be there selling pottery. Heck, I'll even get a pass for anyone who wants to show up!

Becky, I marked the 26th for the Ren Faire in Marshall. When the date gets closer, I will let you know for sure. Pray for nice riding weather.
