There was a wonderful article in this month's WSJ Magazine about Bocuse's efforts to encourage leadership for the Bocuse d'Or.
He drafted Daniel Boulud and Thomas Keller to spearhead our efforts. This year's contestants practiced full-time for six months. The US have finished 6th on two occasions.
They also changed the rules to help the US giving points for innovation (molecular gastronomy) and creativity. They also announced the meat ingredient only 6 months in advance vs. a full year. The fish was announced only 60 days in advance.
