I dropped my subscription over a year ago. I'm not on the website either; after they terminated my website access without notice, I wasn't likely to resubscribe.
I've basically switched to Saveur as my cooking magazine now.

I wish I could get a Kindle subscription to the magazine.
I love it still, but DH hates clutter.

Ilene,
Like you, I was a "day one" subscriber. But, I too have let my subscription lapse. It's just not the same anymore.

I didn't renew the magazine either, nor CC. I did keep the online subscription. I do use that from time to time. I have a stack of CI that I have not had time to look at. I need to spend a magazine day and just read I guess....

If the magazine wants to keep reinventing the wheel, or roast chicken and brownies, after a while it's almost guaranteed that the readership will out-grow what they offer, and a new group will hop in. I've been following the blog Alinea at Home, and one of the points the blogger makes is how much working through that book has changed how she cooks in general. So after a while with CI you begin to get the idea and need the magazine less and less. I haven't gotten the hard copy for a few years now, but I will pick up back issues at book sales for 25 cents. I let my online subscription lapse when I noticed that I rarely used the online stuff beyond the BB. The BB continues to hobble along pissing people off.

Speaking of chickens, am I the only one who has noticed that fried chicken is CC's roast chicken?

Hi,
It used to be possible to negotiate the renewal cost on Cook's Illustrated. My memory is that they would negotiate over the telephone for a rate about 30% lower than their normal card.
Do they still negotiate?

I've been trying to get the annual cheap as well. No joy. I buy the mag if it's at costco but it's not easy to find here in Canada except at an actual bookstore and oddly enough sometimes at my local drugstore. I dropped the paper sub due to the way they mail to Canada, they ship in batches and then mail out individually from here. Cheaper for them I guess but when I get the magazine 2 months after everyone in the US and often after it's on the shelf at the store it's not worth i to me. I let the on-line lapse too. May have to get that again.
