If you do a search for "ultimate" on the CI site, you get 25 results. It's ridiculous. I've tried many of these "ultimate" recipes and for the most part they range from decent to very good and one recipe in particular is excellent. But some are not. So they're not ultimate. OK? Can we just drop the ultimate title, please?

Maybe CI should use "penultimate" instead, always leaving room for one more recipe...
I think it's hilarious that they have the "best" and "ultimate" recipes, then 3 years later they go back to the dish, exhaustively "research" it (with no mention of their previous "ultimate" recipe), and declare a new "best" or "ultimate." Maybe they realize they are losing readers by the score and all the new ones won't know about the previous iterations...

Its kind of silly, really. Ultimate, really? That is painting yourself into a corner. What happens when you want to publish a new version? You end up with Easy Fried Chicken, I suppose. Its not as good, but its easy. I respect easy, but you see their problem. I guess the next one will be old-fashioned. Then, maybe, ... light? Hard to say. Its actually pretty tough to sell these I imagine, but i would love to know how they decide between "great", "best", "ultimate", etc. Also, lets face it, they should have an "adequate" label. I'd probably actually make some of that if it was easy, etc.
I see they have not yet been foolish enough to have an Ultimate Roast Chicken. They'd have to go to quarterly publication.

You know, I get how hard it must be to come up with enough recipes each couple of months. They could approach it a different way now, using different words and freshening up their "brand." Nancy

I'd post on their Facebook page if I thought it'd make a difference. Let's face it, the comment would just be deleted. My image of the CI internet marketing people fluctuates between the following two images: ostriches with their heads in the sand or curled up in fetal position sucking their thumbs rocking back and forth. If they publish an "ultimate" recipe then does it not completely discount their past recipes? For example, banana bread = "Ultimate Banana Bread", "The Best Banana Bread" and "Light Banana Bread" among others. I'm sure in the past I've used other recipes for banana bread from CI, but they are not coming up in their search. So their "Ultimate" is better than "The Best"?

I would think ultimate would have to be better then best, it is ultimate after all. At least they don't incorrectly use the term penultimate (which I heard abused just yesterday in an TV interview... poor guy though he was doing his product a favour by calling it the penultimate)

Agreed. Don't forget "revolution." As in Slow Cooker Revolution. I got this book and if this is 'revolution.' we'd all be in our ancestral homes right now....
