I have a $250 credit on Gilt Group from a Christmas present I needed to return. I need nothing they sell typically, but right now they are having a sale on cookbooks. I'd love to hear from all of you which ones of these books you'd recommend. Amy |

I gotta admit that your experience closes the door on any recommends I'd make; good golly Ms. Molly YOU'VE BEEN TRAINED ![]() ![]() Nonetheless, I would add a caveat that you only select something that EYB has indexed. Case in point would be The Silver Spoon; I have and use it and it is pretty bullet proof. However, I decided to make, once again, Beef Braised Barolo from CI and decided to also search EYB since I had entered all of my books and magazines. Lo & behold The Silver Spoon had a recipe that I did not know about. That is strange because I read the index of most of my books and didn't remember this. I re-searched its index and there was nothing under Beef and Barolo ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, since your cash is burning a hole you might consider this extra filter on your choice(s). ![]() |

If you don't have "My Life in France" it's great. |

I've heard good things about Dessert Fourplay, though I can't remember where. The sorbet bowls look good. I have a set of similar bowls and they come in handy for wide variety of things, although their most important function is ice cream portion control. |

Sorry.....the only ones I have are the Julia books (including My Life in France) and the Silver Palate....I suspect you already have these, if not I like and continue to these. Ilene |

I have Dessert Fourplay and I have only read the recipes. Amy, if EYB has this indexed, you might want to check it out. I think you will find it interesting. |

I'd get the Whole Grains, the Sarabeth, Lidia's Italian American and the Julia Childs. Having said that, I don't own any of these, they are the ones I want to get. Lindsay- were you not cooking from Sass' whole grains book a while ago? Or is this a different book? The Tom Colicchio one looks interesting. Wino, good call to check out EYB for the indexes. |

Sarabeth's Bakery is a well-written cookbook with beautiful photos and great-sounding recipes, with a good variety of categories. I won this cookbook fairly recently, so I haven't had a chance to try any of the recipes yet. Her "Chocolate Chubbies" have been reviewed a lot around the net, and the recipe is posted on the Amazon site: http://www.amazon.com/Sarabeths-Bakery- ... 920&sr=8-1 |

Besides the books of Julia, my favorite on the list is Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill - a book with great recipes, though many have a LOT of ingredients, and are labor intensive - a drawback to a few friends whom have looked at it. That said, I have never tried a recipe from it I didn't like. I was given the 2nd Ave Deli years ago, but was not impressed with it; in fact, I may have sold it. I was also not impressed by that Creole book when I looked at it at a friend's place - I had seen better. |

I have all of Julia's books, so I decided on The Silver Spoon (new edition), Dessert FourPlay, Craft of Cooking: Notes and Recipes from a Restaurant Kitchen (I'm a big fan of Tom Colicchio), and (based upon the strength of Dave's recommendation) Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill Cookbook. I seriously need another bookcase... Thanks all! Amy |
