So, I'm in Dollarama today (the Canadian version of Dollar Tree) and found 2 Canadian Living cookbooks for $3 each. I've previously found other good books there so always take a peak. For my fellow Canucks, they were "Make it Tonight" (a different version then the one I have and for $3 I didn't care if there were some duplicates) and "International Foods". Anyone find other great deals at similar stores? |

Jean, Not at dollar stores, no (and I was amused that your topic is "dolar store", which would be "store of sadness", which is kind of appropriate, in a way). I don't know that I've ever looked at their book section. Where I have made great finds is library book sales ... |

I think of physical pain...isn't that what dolor means in Spanish? I'm not sure Dollarama suits as a sad store though. It always strikes me as cheap and cheerful rather than sad and dreary (like, say Walmart does). I didn't realize they sold books. I'll have to look! |

Carey, it's very hit and miss for decent books but I've also found The Soprano's Cookbook there. And you are right, it's much more cheerful than Walmart. |

I picked up 2 books today. "Cooking in Everyday English " and "Best of the Best - food and Wine volume 13" for a total of $4. Tyler Florence's Family Meals was there too but I didnt get it, might pop back without hubby tomorrow. |

Dolor means pain of any kind. Dolar is not related to dolor. It usually has an accent over to o so it is pronounced with the emphasis in the first syllable; dolor has the emphasis in the second. Dolar is used when referring to American dollar. I like going to the dollar store. Great place for wrapping paper, foil pans, seasonal stuff, etc. I've browsed the books, found interesting stuff but refrained because I don't need another cookbook. I was so good for such a long time, then in the past month I've bought Ina's Make it Ahead, and Dorie's Baking Chez Moi and <i>Around my French Table</i> and have one coming today The Cuban Table: A Celebration of Food, Flavors, and History by Ana Sofia Pelaez all in hardback. Also Flour Too, for the iPad. I bought Plenty More too, but returned it. |

Alina, I have the Cuban Table from the library. I'd be interested in your thoughts of it. My closest attempt of anything like this has been a mojito. It seems nice & several photos. |
