I just finished this book today and I loved it. What an interesting life she had! I was really surprised that she waited years to bake French Bread. I wonder if she was intimidated initially about tackling bread?

I loved everything about that book, and then some. I've read all the bios/auto-bios available and was also lucky to meet her at a family party. Julia was the best friend of my husband's aunt so spent some quality time with her at DH's Aunt's 85th bday party. Julia was 90 at the time I think?
I'll obviously never forget it, at least for now

I , too, loved the book. I devoured it during a "girls week" in Cabo and my friends kept making fun of me because I wasn't reading a "beach book". A group that I am a member of (Les Dames Escofier) just sent out an announcement that the Kansas City chapter has just put together a trip this summer called, "In the Footsteps of Julia" which includes visits to her haunts in Paris and Nice....I drooled on the screen and bought a lottery ticket. I met her briefly and took a class from her in the early days of Aspen Food & Wine Classic. We had lunch at the Little Nell Hotel in the patio at a table very close to hers. The lunch special was a pasta dish with white truffle oil and while we were ordcering it, I asked the waiter to find out what Julia was eating....he came back and said she ordered a burger and fries. Perfect! ilene

She was one in a million. I've read everything I can find about her and have all her books. Somebody (can't remember who) called her a national treasure and I think that's an accurate description. Fitzie

I haven't read it, but while out to today I'll see if the library has it. I've been meaning to get it and this was a good reminder.
Nancy and Ilene, I am sooooooo jealous you have both met Julia. Especially Nancy's long visit. What a treat! Do you have pic's?

Yes, it was a good, good book. I was sad when it ended.
