I'm strongly considering installing a black sink - sort of....

It would look beautiful but my concern is how will look in the future.

Does anyone have experience with this - personally or in friend's kitchens?

I don't have any experience with black sinks but, as the wife of a graphic designer, I have plenty of experience with black. I is a very fussy color. We had a black carpet when we got married and visitors often asked if we wanted them to vacuum for us.

I have a friend who has a Black sink and Toilet in one of their bathrooms. The sink really shows the water spots and soap residue.

When we first bought this house seven years ago the sink needed changing so we bought a black silgranite sink and had it installed. It didn't take long for the love affair to be over. While it looked good at first, within a very short time it started showing water and soap spots that couldn't be removed, even though I took great care with it. I had had a white silgranite sink in a previous home and it got nicked up very quickly; I should have know I'd have similar issues with the black.
I had the black sink removed and now I have stainless. All sinks are problematic, I don't know if there's a magic answer other than a $$$$ super expensive stainless model.

I've worked in a lot of very high-end kitchens, and inevitably the kitchen designer has installed a sink that looks good, but isn't terribly practical. I think my favorite example of this is a concrete sink (very large, which I do like) that is cured to be rough. Really? In a sink? Really impossible when trying to do clean up after an event.

Not one of these homes features a stainless sink. Why? I wish I knew. I've got a white porcelain sink, and I'd give anything to have something else. There are a lot of very cool looking high-end stainless sinks.

Silgranite WAS high on the list as was Dekor's acrylic but the realities you all shared are the exactly the basis of my concerns.

We recently installed a brushed steel fridge and stove and keeping them spotless is driving me crazy so I was trying to avoid the stainless steel sink. SS just doesn't warm this cold, cold heart. We have a white sink and it coordinates just fine but I was hoping for a bit more WOW! I guess I'll stay with the white.

Well, I'll go spend a few hundred somewhere else

I don't own a black sink, but I do own a white acrylic composite sink [MoenStone] that I wish would disappear. I am, to say the least, distrustful of man-made molded-pretend-natural products.

OTOH, the siren song of natural black soapstone occasionally hums in my ear.

I love, love, love copper sinks. Want them shiny? Polish them. Or leave them alone and call it "patina." Either way it looks beautiful. Copper is naturally anti-microbial, and it's softer than stainless so a bit less likely to cause a chipped dish. I had one in my previous kitchen, and I have one in the attic now waiting for the remodel on the current kitchen.

While I've never had a copper sink, I do agree with you them being an ideal material. It wouldn't be right for our current house, but something I'd definitely consider for a future house.
