So ... our "oatmeal pan", a 2qt Caphalon One nonstick saucepan, is in a bad way. Nonstick coating peeling off. Not all that surprising because it's around 10 years old. So we wanna replace it.

It is apparently not possible to buy a mid-priced individual 2qt nonstick saucepan offline. Tried Macys, Penneys, Sears, Costco, Target, and Williams-Sonoma. Every place has 11-piece sets with 2qt saucepans in them, but nobody will sell you an individual one unless it costs more than $100.

So ... Amazon. What to people think of Cuisinart Green?

Consider Vollrath's 69302 pot & lid 67312 at their site and on Amazon.

I have that 2 qt Cuisinart green pan, and it works great. I think that I got it grom Chef's Catalog, when they had a really good sale on Cuisinart pans, and I replaced some pans so I could use them on my induction burner in the summer. I only got the one NS, but there is always something you need NS for.

Dave, thanks.

Wino,

Yeah, that was the first thing we looked at. Thing is, the SteelCoat is their lowest grade, and least durable, nonstick coating.

Josh, all my non-stick is hard anodized Cuisinart. I use the 5 qt. version of this one to make rice and love it. I like them because it's ok to use metal with them, which I do especially for rice. I use this one as my popcorn pan. Love that they have glass lids.

But why would one buy offline in any case? Clearly it wastes a great deal of time!

Actually I'm with Josh, although our reasoning might not be the same. In my case, I want to get hands-on with my pots/pans/bakeware before I buy because I'm so ultra-particular about handle size and shape, weight balance, etc. When it comes to gadgets I'll order from Amazon or wherever without having seen it locally, but my preference is always to see things in person if possible and then order it online to get the best deal.

Emilie

p.s. This reminds me of the beautiful A-C nonstick saucepan I had years ago and ruined (forgot it was on the stove boiling water). That made me want to cry. Actually I think I did cry. Haven't bought a non-stick saucepan since that traumatizing experience although I've often thought I'd like to have one for making sugar syrups. I love Scan Pan for nonstick in general but they're not mid-priced.

Ah, I usually buy brands/models I'm familiar with, though when I haven't, heavy leaning on reviews has actually served me pretty well.

I find the in-store selections to be very poor typically, though I live in a modest sized area that is not well served, kitchen-wise, so that definitely plays a role.

I always make my oatmeal in my rice cooker - does a great job, never overcooks it, nonstick, and I can even set it out overnight.
