What's everyone else planting?

Started a pot of basil last week. Weather is too tricky here to even consider plating until May 1, and even then it can get pretty cold. I go to Planters Seed to get a few herb starts and then I check out their seeds. Hit the City Market for tomato plants. That's about all I plant. Am going to tear out some roses and plant tomatoes in that bed.

Nothing from seed since I'm a weekender and can't maintain the seeds. Our frost date is Mothers day so will wait for main planting until then. Tried to buy mulch this weekend but it was still frozen. Hopefully the warm temps this week will assist.

I'm having a hard time thinking through planting

Gods, the weather is messed up. Here, everything started blooming around Feb 15th, because we already have spring temperatures. I'd had to rush to get the leafy greens into the ground because it seems likely it'll be hot by early May.

I'm with Paul on this. I do know that we are making the veggie garden much smaller (again) this year. Mostly I buy plants. I do basil and parsley (Italian) from seed.

Everything seem to sprout up last week, hopefully it did not get destroyed by the storm we are having this week. The best news though is that the rhubarb we thought might be dead is huge now. We need to cut it back. So sad I have to go find some strawberries so I can make strawberry rhubarb hand pies.

We are going to Costco this week to see if they have their trees in yet. We want to replace our mandarin tree (it will get planted in the ground somewhere probably).

Now we have red lettuce, leeks, fennel, green onions, regular and longevity spinach, chard, kale and mustard greens and of course sage, rosemary and thyme which seem impossible to kill.

Great first year list, Fuzzy! It will grow exponentially.

As always, you ARE the garden state. And as every year, I'll happily swap Oregon wine/hooch for some dried peppers when the time comes.

Dave (or anyone else with EarthBox knowledge). I don't have a spigot on my condo balconies so I use 50 gallon water barrels that are elevated for watering my EarthBoxes. Do you think there would be enough pressure to use the automatic watering system? TIA. Deb
