Anyone else tried this? I picked up a bottle on a whim and made 'the intro to Aperol' aperitif last evening; very nice!
Ice 2 ounces Aperol 1 ounce gin 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice 1/4 ounce simple syrup (see NOTE) 1 dash Angostura bitters Twist of orange peel, for garnish
Directions Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the Aperol, gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and bitters. Shake well, then strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass. Twist the orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass.
Next I'll try the Aperol Spritzer:
3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, 1 part soda, over ice with a slice of orange.

My wie is pretty addicted to Aperol Spritzers; we got introduced to them in Romania last year and have been drinking them in the summer since. 3-2-1 Proseco-Aperol-Seltzer(Soda Water). Typically 75-50-25 (mL) for two drinks
I also Aperol use in place of Campari for Negroni's sometimes.

How does it compare with Campari, taste-wise?

They are pretty similar, with Aperol being a milder (a fair bit). Aperol also has 1/2 the alcohol.

I've made a couple of the Aperol spritzer which I enjoyed. However, I do notice a taste in the back of my throat from the Aperol that is like the pith of an orange, quite bitter. I don't like that bit.

Which Proseco you use can make a significant difference to the drink; some are quite a bit sweeter then others, and will offset that bitter note more or less. I like some bitter, so I prefer the dryer Proseco, but you might just try a different Proseco. If you decide the spritzers are not for you, you can always just drink the Proseco

26.45 in Ontario, although Paul is close enough to the border to get in la Belle Province. My Branca Menta was the same price in Ontario as it was in Quebec, give or take a buck. I did campari and beer in the summer and quite enjoyed it but hubby did not.

I used this ratio, more or less - https://food52.com/blog/7903-campari-shandyI've had a few red beers I liked, but on the east coast this summer I had a few white beers, one infused with wild blueberries and served with actual blueberries in it, a strawberry/rhubarb one and a maple beer. They were all great, and on the lighter side for the summer. In the winter I love a good Black and Tan.
