This is an older article published by TechDirt, but I just ran into it. Kind of surprised me, but everyone has many facets. Here is Nathan Myhrvold defending or promoting the enforcement of patents as leveling the playing field. I'm still reading it to make sure I understand the different inferences and outcomes the article writes about.

It's a bit hard to believe in a co-founder of Microsoft talking about "levelling the playing field". Unless he means "levelling" in the other sense ...
