All,

I have a couple of French blued steel crepe pans. I had a mishap with one of them, and it now has some burned-on crud that won't come off, even after boiling soapy water and a plastic scrubby. I can't use scouring pads, Barkeepers's Friend or steel wool because these are softer steel. Suggestions?

I assume it's a crud of organic origin, not something like burned plastic bag; try EasyOff oven cleaner, but use it outdoors - fumes can be tough. I usually wrap smaller objects in a plastic bag and let it set 'awhile'. Rinse gently, don't spalsh :!: :!:

I add baking soda to the boiling soapy water. Maybe bake in the oven during a cleaning cycle?

Try Dawn's Power Disolver. I burned some rice (and I mean really burned) in one of my blue steel pans. It took more than one attempt but it did work, Kind of hard to find. Usually get it at Home Depot or Lowes but they are often out.

As it turns out, I accidentally left the pan on the stove for 40 min, which burned everything off. Not a reccomended method, but effective.
