For those that do not know, my beloved dog Clara was killed by a car earlier this week. I'm grieving as if I'd lost a child. As is Andy.

We've cancelled a dinner party planned for tomorrow night, and I'd like to keep menu ideas simple right now. Thoughts on the ultimate comfort food (which require no shopping) are welcome.

Amy

:( :( :(
Homemade soup or stew, cheese toast, and a lot of wine.
Soft jazz can't hurt.

I am so very sorry -- I saw her picture on Facebook and she looks like my Nellie. I can imagine how I'd feel.

As for ultimate comfort food, I go back to M.F.K. Fisher who wrote about food and the comfort it gave her in a way that's never been equalled. Three dishes that have always stayed with me because they were so simple but the way she wrote about them was so sublime, are her fried egg sandwiches, spaghetti with nothing but rich, sweet butter, and rich dark cocoa poured over slices of buttered toast.

It doesn't stand a chance of providing the comfort you need, but a Chicken Pot Pie can be assembled on auto-pilot with ingredients from your freezer. Sorry about Clara.

Sorry to hear about Clara. Try some meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I also second that pot pie.

Amy,

The loss of a pet is devastating. Tell us about Clara and post a picture. You have our sympathies.
