Houston ain't bad, if you don't mind breath taking sweltering heat, high humidity, awful traffic, & stinking oil refineries.

Other than that, it's dang near paradise! 8-)

thanks guys! The timing does suck but c'est la vie. Could be worse, some of the people let go were with the company for over 30 years yet not old enough to be bridged to their pension.
Transfers were not offered as an option, which is good since DH would love to go to Houston, although Scottsdale is his first preference. I retained my American citizenship so he keeps reminding me that we can easily go.

I'm hopeful that something will come up soon....I've finally got my resume close to where it needs to be. ;)

I've added 3 chickens (3 pack of birds at Costco was $5 off) and 4 pork tenderloins to the freezer since I had neither. Pork is ridiculously cheap here this time of year with everyone making sausages (we did ours a few weeks ago) and it's been hard to resist buying it. I may go buy some more ribs to freeze for the summer months when it's twice the price it is now.

Scottsdale is very nice as long as you also have a cabin in Flagstaff to get away from the Summer heat, I enjoyed a very nice visit with some Northern Canadians (AKA Snowbirds) poolside this past weekend in Mesa. The weather was wonderful, about 45F in the mornings, upper 70's in the afternoon.

Having done my externship for Culinary School at the Biltmore in Phoenix, let me say southern Arizona is impossibly hot in the summer. "The Cabana" (the poolside restaurant) isn't air conditioned, and every morning when I'd stop by to deliver product, it would already be about 110 degrees in the kitchen (and, we're talking 10:00 a.m.). I'll take the Intuits... ;)

Good luck with the job search Jean.

Amy

I was in Scottsdale last summer. The heat by the pool was made bearable by frequent dips and the frozen grapes they served us. I did live there for a couple years and it was less lovely when you have to leave the pool.

Sorry about your job Jean. I hope your job search goes well. Crossing everything for you.

Mary

I actually loved Houston. Maybe it was a whole year of knowing that winter wasn't coming...but I have really fond memories of the place. Living on the bayou, working at the medical center, eating at Pappasito, Taco Milagro, Tortugas, Good Company BBQ, and shopping at Central Market...what's not to love? But since that want an option, I hope that TO is good to you soon!
