Well, I don't know if it's for suckers (hi, wino), but yah, I quit drinking very dark roasts quite a while ago, even for espresso where I no longer roast to the point of oil on the surface, leaving something more then brown, but well short of 'french'. For drip coffee, I hit more around blonde. I'd don't put milk or sugar in my drip coffee, so am much more sensitive to burnt flavours. Now, around here, at Starbucks, they call a Grande Black Blonde (the new mild) a Beyonce....

And decaf? <Shudder>

I can't drink regular coffee anymore. I abstained during my pregnancies, which were back to back, and now regular "Canadian/American/Brown" (choose your name of choice, I mean anything that's not espresso) will make me agitated.
Espresso however I drink quite regularly, even before bed, with no ill effects.
I buy grounds. Decaf for the morning, espresso for after dinner.

In about 10 years, I'll have to stop drinking coffee. I plan to switch to green tea, rather than do decaf. Decaf is just ... wrong.

I had to quit drinking coffee on a regular basis about 25 years ago. I have a cup 2 or 3 times a year. Decaf just isn't the same for some reason.

big thumbs up. One thing I learned from Good Eats is that your decaf should cost more than regular coffee of the same brand. If it does not, you are getting inferior beans since the process is more costly.

Have any of you tried Redbird coffee? He is a roaster in Montana, I believe, who does organic fair trade coffee. I just bought a Capresso Infinity burr grinder and five pounds of his Blue Jaguar coffee. I make it in a Bialetti Moka pot 2-3 times a day. The coffee is awesome and a very good price for the quality.

I used to prefer a dark roast until one day I didn't. One reason is that the darker the roast the less caffeine. I love my coffee. I really want to get a 2-cup Brikka pot. It is supposed to produce the closest substitute to real espresso. Good crema...

Well, just to hijack this thread a little further - we now use a Nespresso machine at home and at the office; our model is the Lattissimo. We love it, as do our clients.

The nespressos are great office machines. Decent coffee, low clean-up. If I didn't have this brasilia, I'd seriously consider getting one (along with a kit for making my own capsules, of course!)
