Not a pie, but I've had this cheesecake on my to-try list forever. BLACKBERRY SWIRL CHEESECAKE http://www.bhg.com/recipe/desserts/blac ... heesecake/

Ohh looks good. Thanks! I'll try that another time. DS wants berry pie if I can find olallieberries near me so much the better.

Aren't olallieberries from the Pacific Northwest I have a book about American pies. There is no index and it generally goes cross country so it would be helpful if you knew where they are from. I'm pretty sure there is a recipe in the book.

Found the recipe. It's in "American Pie" by Pascale le Draoulec.
The Late Emma Duarte's Olallierry Pie from Duarte's Tavern in Pescadaro, CA
A double crust 1 quart olallieberries (raspberries or boysenberries will do) 1-1/4 cup sugar handful of flour
Put bottom crust in a 9" pie dish. Mix berries with sugar and flour and pour into pie shell. Top with remaining crust. Seal it well and bake at 375 deg. for an hour or until brown. Put a pan under the pie while it's baking to catch drippings. Serve warm with fresh clotted cream or vanilla ice cream.
------- This is an interesting book to read. Ms. Draoulec drove cross country to sample pies from all parts. I've made a couple of her recipes and they were good. Haven't made this one.

Thank you sooo much Fitzie! It seems odd that no cinnamon would be added. I will try it and report back. I bought a mess of blackberries and some raspberries to combine in the pie. Nancy

I checked the recipe again. No mention of cinnamon. I only put cinnamon in pumpkin or apple pie. I see it mentioned in a lot of recipes but I guess I'm not a big fan so I leave it out.

So I used a combo of blackberries and raspberries (more blackberries than raspberries). Cornstarch did not cause the juices to gel, so it was a very juicy pie. Tasty, but way too much juice. I should have gone with my first instinct which was to use the small beads of tapioca. a la CI. Next time, I'll do just that.
