Tis is different then the one I was trying to remember....Bayona is the restaurant that I enjoyed.

I'm sure you have heard of it. We wanted to go when we were in New Orleans after Katrina helping out habitat in the 9th ward, but she had not reopened yet. My friend Chef Joe Randall (Savannah cooking school) is a good friend of Liah Chase and helped her get it opened back up. It is a landmark restaurant for New Orleans. I hope to eat there next time we are back on the area.

So I did get to Red Gravy for brunch. And I got to talk to Roseann, who definitely remembers Kathy. This is Roseann and her husband:



She said the reason she knows Kathy is that Kathy volunteered to crash at her house for a few days and work the restaurant for Mardi Gras. But after three 18-hour days of hot work and heavy drinking, Kathy burned out and elected to stay at Roseann's house and watch things there. Also, apparently this is where our SilverSage decided that she didn't want to be a chef.

Kathy, she asked you to email her. She's like to hear from you.

I think she forgot to mention that by day 4 she told me she had big problems with her computer & software running her accounting system. (Actually, her books were a mess). Since that's what I really do for a living, I stayed at the house to work on that for 2 days . Since by that time her daughter and 4 friends had arrived to help, she had more than enough help at the restaurant.

But the 18 hour days were an understatement. I don't think we got more than 2 or 3 hours of sleep at night. Because of her location, you couldn't get out of the city until the parades were over and the barricades were down for the night. Between the time the restaurant closed and the barricades came down, there wasn't much to do except consume copious amounts of alcohol. Then her alarm would go off at 4 a.m. to go in and start prepping for breakfast. Mardi Gras is no time for amateurs or middle aged accountants!

I saw her when I was back in NOLA this past January on business and it was an entirely different experience.

So I too, may be venturing down to the Big Easy around the 20th. Did you find any good eats when you were there, Fuzzy?

Yes, I did. I started doing a writeup, but my computer died in the middle and I never rewrote it. I'll give you a rundown when I'm not on a phone.
