Hi all,

I'm trying to find some light weight cookware for an older relative. Just need 1-2 frying pans and 1-2 sauce pans. There's no need for larger pots and pans. She uses an electric oven, for whatever that's worth. Anything that isn't to heavy to grasp and/or has one of those helper handles would work.

Likewise, any recommendations for "gear" that is senior-friendly would also be appreciated (I'm favoring Oxo but open to whatever).

Most of the mid-range non-stick cookware I see is reasonably light-weight. Of course the cheapo stuff is really light-weight, but not in a good way. I'm thinking of the nicer pieces by companies like Farberware. They are thick aluminum pans with a non-stick coating. They handles tend to be nice and thick as well. Most of the sets come with a laughably small "Dutch oven" which is actually a useful large saucepan with two handles on either side instead of one long handle -- much easier to maneuver. You might also look into an "everyday" pan since they also have two handles, unlike the usual skillet.

Oxo does make very comfy tools. I own quite a few because they are easier on my bad case of "gamer hands" than most brands.

I 2nd Faberware. Also, Revere Ware but I'm not sure if they make non-stick. And the Macy's-brand cookware is generally pretty decent and lightweight. And you can always find a sale.

You can't go wrong with OXO. It's made for your situation.

I would favor the old style Revere Ware. I don't know if the handles are oven proof. I think that is the claim. It is light and inexpensive. If non stick is an issue, I would look at aluminum.

Check out the T-fal Professional line. It is widely available and CI has recommended the skillets in the past. My 10" skillet performs nicely. Beware of the Signature and Basic lines. The prices are probably too good to deliver great performance.

Also check out the Technique line at www.qvc.com. I haven't tried it but it looks good

What great suggestions! I guess I'll go shopping this weekend, look for these lines of cookware, and see how they feel! Thanks for your help!
