My SIL is looking for good quality appliances for their new kitchen. What are your favorites? TIA Nancy

Nancy,
I think you need to give folks a price range. Like, I like Aga a lot, but you'd better have had Twitter options.

In addition to price point, what size is she looking at, and NG, LP or electric? Any preference on open or closed burners? Details woman! Amy

If possible, go with gas.

Agreed, or duel fuel. But sometimes those aren't options. Depends on where you live.

So true Amy. I have a free standing stove and wall oven. I would have loved to have a gas stove, but no natural gas so I had to have all electric (which I prefer for the oven). We could bring it in now, but the cost is not worth it, since we'll probably have to give up the house within the next ten years.

I have come to really like my induction cooktop. But I loved gas too.

Wino, when we bought our house in 1975, it was in the middle of an almond orchard. Since then, our street has slowly been built with fancy homes (million plus), so of course they brought in natural gas lines. There is quite a distance between our house and the ones with gas, so laying the line would be super expensive, plus retrofitting our kitchen, and then buying a new stove. Good thing is that ours is one of the least expensive, and we have over half an acre, so it should sell fast when we are ready even with an electric stove, since they will probably tear it down and build one twice as large (we only have 3750 sq. ft.). On the positive side, after 37 years, I've gotten quite adept at cooking with my JennAir.
