I renewed my membership again for this year. With the drought in California, I'm sure the price of produce is going to be pretty high this year. Since I paid early, Farmer John emailed me yesterday and he has a dozen eggs for me. They will be dropped off tomorrow.

Here is a list of the tomatoes Farmer John is planting this year. I have never heard of a Yellow Stuffer which is a hollow tomato for stuffing. I'm happy to see that he isn't planting the Early Girl variety from last year. They weren't very flavorful and they didn't store well.
Picas: Roma Mortgage Lifter: Fresh Market Sweet Hearts: Cherry Sweet Zen: Grape Opalka: Oblong 4" to 6" sauce and salsa Yellow Stuffer: Hollow inside stuffing and grilling Italian Giant Beefsteak: Table and fresh market

I set out my cooler yesterday morning for my Beef Delivery for today. I get home from work last night and I notice that the cooler has been moved. I look inside and there is a dozen eggs from Farmer John. I forgot that I was supposed to get an egg delivery yesterday, so it was a welcome surprise.

The latest from Farmer Jon. I'm bummed about the strawberry field. They are trying a new variety this year. The ones we had last year were so good.
THE ASPARAGUS IS STARTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had to pick some 2" spears today because of a freeze tonight. But we stumbled upon the stuff just starting to come up. If the weather will cooperate (warm moderate temps) we should have a good year. We plowed down the old strawberry patch so we can plant sweet corn next week. We got all of the onions in yesterday. We are starting zucchini and summer squash in the hoop house. The melons won't be too far behind. We have chives for the next egg delivery. We planted cilantro, parsley, radishes, romaine lettuce yesterday. The strawberries in the hoop house are looking super. The strawberries in the field are starting to leaf out and turn green. The rhubarb is starting to come up. My neighbor gave me 9 more laying hens last week. We are getting about a dozen a day. That means everyone should get a dozen about every two weeks or so until the new birds kick in. Then it will be at a dozen a week. Thank you for your patience.

I am up to my eyeballs in Asparagus. So much so that I am giving it away to Relatives and Friends. I have about 5 lbs right now and I am getting another delivery tomorrow. One of the members is dehydrating some and using some of it in soups. Any suggestions?
