who hates it when I am watching a television show and I see liquid measuring cups being used for flour when someone is supposed to be baking. Tonight on Desperate Housewives, Brie is baking and using the wrong measuring cups.

Todd, If that's the only thing you can find wrong with Desperate Housewives, it's a good night indeed. (says the Fuzzy, whose wife has belabored him for using the pyrex cups to measure flour ... )

I've cross used my measuring cups and am not too ashamed. The big question is do you think that is something Bree would do? THAT is annoying.

I am annoyed by many things on TV that are just WRONG, although I can't recall seeing anyone bake anything on TV, come to think of it.
I agree that Bree, the perfectionist, would not use the wrong measuring cups. (I've only watched two episodes of the show and I know that.)
My big pet peeve is all the legal shows that are so far removed what really happens in courtrooms, judge's chambers, etc. They always get the bankruptcy lingo wrong too, saying Chapter 11 when it should be 7 and vice-versa. I know they use lawyers as consultants - but I guess they use bad ones. Maybe they use bad chefs for consultants, too?
I'll bet TV writers and prop providers don't do much baking or cooking.

On the other hand, I got my egg-whisking technique from As The World Turns, way back when Meg Ryan was on it. The guy her parents didn't approve of was showing her how to make omelets. Perhaps small-screen matinee idols have better kitchen skills?

Real lingo and real lawyering would be unbearable to watch, just like watching someone do real prep work would. It is entertainment, not instruction, and the successful producers never forget that....

I've never noticed actors using the wrong measuring cups, but I am a firm believer in using the correct measuring vessel. Especially with flour. I have to say I love all you guys answers, gave me a good laugh this morning!
