Cookaholics Bulletin Board

Folks,

A couple years ago I enabled Tapatalk for people who want to access the Board on their mobile devices. Starting recently, the company behind the Tapatalk app has become engaged in some questionable business practices, so it's my plan to remove it.

Is anyone else using it? I'll make replacing the app more of a priority if someone else is using it.

Though I'm not sure what you mean, as far as questionable businessnpractices, I'm sure you know by now that you aren't the only one disenchanted with it. I was looking into installing it on my new phone, but every recent review was one star, stating that they simply were not what they used to be, which was supposed to make it faster checking out your favorite sites. I looked at similar apps and it seems there are problems with all of them, according to recent reviews, though I have never tried them myself.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. The new app has made a bunch of highly questionable design choices, and they're charging more for it (a lot more). And, even if you paid for the old app a month ago, it's now no good.

The best solution would be to have a responsive, mobile-friendly design for the board itself. However, that would cost $$$$.

I use a vintage version of Tapatalk on vintage Android [2.3] and everything works quite well. Unfortunately, it appears that an end-of-life crisis looms for my old phone since I usually get a message that my phone does not contain enough memory to support life for the the new, bloated version of a once useful App.

Based on reviews and screen shots of the new, improved, Tapatalk, I do not think it would hang around long if I downloaded it to any new phone I might be tempted to invest in.

It looks like I may be able to add a mobile-friendly style at m.cookaholics.org relatively cheaply. Will test.

Just to say I have no trouble with the boards on my iPad. Don't check them on the phone.

I actually prefer the regular web view on my phone for consistency. Two-finger zoom gets everything to the size I need.

OK. Sometime over the holiday break I'm going to do two things:

a) remove tapatalk support
b) add a separate http://m.cookaholics.org interface which is optimized for phones.
