Happy Thanksgiving, all!

I hosted hubby's family on Sunday night - made CI's sunday roast (cheap one) with an eye of round and their yorkshire puddings. Along with a rutabaga/carrot mash (hubby did not like) and CI's mashed sweet pots but used the purple Asian sweet potatoes and they are wayyyyyy too starchy - it was like serving glue. Also had ribollita soup (from my freezer) and a cranberry and apple salad on mixed greens with a maple dressing. Pumpkin pie, apple pie and blueberry pies for dessert (all purchased) with homemade vanilla icecream.
I completely forgot my niece is a vegetarian - new since last Christmas and I've only seen her once since - and her mom didn't remind me. So I was happy that the soup was vegetarian at least or all the poor girl would have gotten was the veggies above plus broccoli (brought by my other sister in law) and salad.
Dinner today was at my sisters. Too much food. I'm done!

Hey, I don't know that I've ever heard ... does Canadian Thanksgiving have a goofy myth like American?

Yeah, I know I could Google it, but I'm more interested in hearing Jean & Wino's versions.

Nah! I brought it with me when I moved here in 1972. Canucks like any excuse to eat&drink, so it became an instant hit

We had butternut squash soup as the first course, and coq au vin with mashed as the second. All in all, it was not my best work by far, but the guests and family were happy, so I'm not complaining

I'm glad we moved after Wino or we would have missed out.

I remember something about it being a harvest festival (and more in fitting with the end of harvest then in late November) but other than that I think it's just more of an excuse for a long weekend.

Paul, I'll trade you your soup for my wall paper paste sweet potatoes. My leftovers (and there were a lot) went to the chickens.

Hmmmph. You folks to the north have no sense of a good story at all. Here I handed you an opportunity to spin flights of fancy involving moose and hockey, and you don't even try. Well, I'll fix that.
