I had to thin out my orach and peas, so here's a baby orach, pea sprout, raspberry and cucumber salad: ... was tasty. Yay. The purple orach is an amazing red-purple color.

I'm jealous. It snowed here last night. We planted seed though yesterday; despite 3 days in a row with -12 C low temps, the soil temp has been holding steady above 0 and highs have been enough for lettuce, spinach and chard, so we planted those.

Paul,
If it's any consolation, my chard is doing badly because it's too warm here.

Great salad, Fuzzy!
Chard is usually the last of the greens to succumb to heat in my garden. Usually it will continue producing well into July, then just stop growing much, but not bolting, like spinach and brassicas. Then, it will take off again sometime in Sept., when it starts getting somewhat cool again.

We had sleet on Sunday but are up above 0 again (yay). So our snow is finally gone but it's way too early yet to even think about planting. We have to wait for the May-long weekend, so about a month or so yet before we can plant...
I'm so jealous of warm climates!

Highs in the fifties here today with bouts of heavy rain. No planting until around Mother's Day in our climate.

I just planted my first 6 tomatoes in Earthboxes, under wall o' waters. Those absorb the heat from the sun, then release it at night, so you can start a little bit early.

It's going to be 84 today. We're opening up the greenhouse in case stuff overheats ...

Tried to transplant some wandering phlox yesterday and the ground is so hard you can't get a spade in. Guess I'll have to wait until after the promised rain.
