So, whatcha' doin' for memorial day? Anything creative?
I'll be doing a crawfish boil, because our nearby Chinese market had live crawfish. And grilled porcini. And corn & stuff.
You?

Roasted asparagus, custom chicken wings, bruschetta and wine I may be 'away' but I was raised on Memorial Day in a military-based town!

I did my dinner early yesterday, as Bonnie started at 7 PM, and I got 3 in. of rain! So almost everyone was back home by then, and stayed in today, unless, like me, they have a garden to tend to!
I made a mostly Asian meal, with the main dish being the BBQ chicken, Bangkok style. It is marinated in coconut milk, blended with garlic, cilantro, and yellow curry paste. I had 2 sauces for it, which I usually use for satay, and the usual sweet and spicy dipping sauce. I also used some of last year's butternut stash in a tamarind butternut curry. And I made a mushroom filling, originally for spring rolls, but I wrapped in lettuce leaves and rice paper, and made the sauce for the spring rolls - a galangal emulsion - which was also good on the chicken. And finally, I made another bok choy salad with that shallot dressing from a previous thread. I added some garlic chives and cilantro, and it went great with the Asian food.

We bought 3 sandwiches, 1 bag of chips and two bottles of water at the airport. For $58. A glorious memorial day meal!

I made pancakes. Not exactly summer holiday fare but they were yummy. If I'd only thought to add blueberries to them, the plate definitely would have qualified as patriotic, since I also pulled bacon out of the freezer and recrisped it in the oven. Oh well. Maybe I'll get it right on the 4th of July . Emilie

We grilled ribs, burgers and hotdogs and played slip and slide baseball (it involves sheets of plastic, kiddie pools as bases, dishsoap, lots of water and a kickball). It was a lot of fun but we are all remembering we are too old for stuff like that this morning.

My youngest graduated from college over the Memorial Day weekend. Can you spell FINI$HED! Food tasted great all weekend even in the Chinese food dive we dined in!
