What are you cooking? I am planning to have guests, but don't really have a menu in mind. There will be 8 of us if everyone is in town. I was thinking of the open face beef wellington, but we have had indiv bw within the last yr at one home & I don't want her to think I am trying to upstage her. TIA Kathy

Kathy,
We will be hosting a neighborhood dessert party. I'll probably be cruising for ideas.

Dave's heart-shaped dinner will always be my "gold standard" for what constitutes romantic...
Dave, do you care to share again?

A ceiling light. A ceiling light to replace the one in our office because someone put too strong a bulb into it and it exploded in a dramatic rain of shattered glass. A ceiling light that was picked up from a store that is like a Super Target.

PS I do have a wonderful husband but he is lousy at gifts, shopping causes him to break out in hives. This was a low point though. He did MUCH better for my birthday. A very cool vase, 13 long stemmed red roses and an extension of last year's gift of monthly flower delivery. This has helped me better appreciate that there is no longer a bare bulb hanging from my ceiling.

Kathy,
Waaaaay back when I made Veau en Feuilletons from Julia's Mastering, Vol. 2 (page 219). It's a veal "roast" made with veal scallops and a pork, ham, veal "stuffing," which is then made even more decadent by the addition of truffles and foie gras. (Yeah, it ain't cheap to make, but damn...is it good.) You can "cheat" and use truffled foie gras, which, IIRC, is how I did it. You then make a sauce from the roast using Madeira. Scrumptious.
It's really not difficult to make, and I will never forget the look on (my now) BIL's face when he took his first bite. (I think he had died and gone to heaven, and he's a finicky eater.) I served it with a trio of purees...beet, carrot and spinach. There may have been something potato on the plate, but I don't remember.
To me Valentine's Day should be a "special" meal. (btw...shouldn't this thread be in "Holidays?")

I thought she might still invite some of y'all (which would have placed it correctly!). Anyway, it's in it's proper home now.

Amy Yes! Also, when is the last time we heard Fairlane's T-Day story? Where is he??? Edited to stay on thread(so Josh won't yell at me): I dunno, I'll have to think about it and see how he acts for the next week or so.
