So a restaurant here in town serves something called Hudhud Ghanouj, which is a hummus-like dip made from pureed turnips. It is tremendously delicious; it's our main reason for going to that restaurant.

I wanted to make some myself, of course, but none of my cookbooks have a recipe! Google has also failed me; searching by name or as "turnip dip" turns up a handful of references to the dish, but no recipes.

Help? Maybe someone here can search the web in Arabic for me?

Sorry I cannot speak, read or write Arabic, but I did search Epicurious (sorry I can't figure out how to link it for you) and they have two recipes for Baba Ghanouj. I was wondering if you looked at them to see if replacing the eggplant with turnips might get you close.

Ilene,

Well, the seasonings are different, and I don't know how the turnips are cooked before being pureed.

If you find/invent something, please post. I love turnips and I can't eat hummus.

I have a Middle Eastern book at home. I'll take a look after work to see if I've got anything.

I will email my brother the Arabic politics expert (he's a VP at the US Institute for Peace). Alas that the Google couldn't help.

My friend said she'd ask her teacher but doesn't think that her teacher is much of a cook. We'll see. We're all trying for you Josh!
