Old news to those of us in Colorado. We had to stop using it at the restaurant. Amy

Even though my state is not listed, taking no chances (at least in the melon dept), my cantaloupe is in the trash!

Huh, I wondered why all the cantaloupe dissappeared from the farmer's market this week. Which was a shame, since that cantaloupe is from the Delta. On the bright side, we had a delicious honeydew after dinner.
I wonder how you can get listeria inside a cantaloupe?
And, just to keep a sense of proportion, I'll point out that an equal number of people died in car accidents in the USA in the last 3 hours. Yet it doesn't cause Americans to swear off cars ...

Cantaloupe hasn't veen very good here (MO) this year. In fact, I quit buying it because it was so bad. I know there is absolutely no connection, just my $.02 fitzie

Does anyone know where listeria comes from? How does it enter our food supply?

I bought a canteloupe yesterday, it's in my lunch and the kiddos today. News story this morning assuring Canadians that any US canteloupes sold here are not affected so I didn't pull them out. Fuzzy, I was wondeing about the listeria too, I guess it's through the soil and/or water.

Lots of coverage here as Amy said...one newscast did say that if you scrub the rind vigorously with hot soapy water, you can get rid of the Lysteria.

I always scrub melons with a brush and hot soapy water. It's amazing how much dirt comes off of them, especially the cantaloupes.
